Pasto
The Pasto project is located in the Seinäjoki Belt of Finland, which is host to ten gold occurrences. Regional lithologies are Paleoproterozoic in age, formed during the Svecofennian Orogeny (1930-1780 Ma), and NW-SE shearing and associated folding provides structural corridors and traps for Au deposition. Mineralization is associated with lower temperature mineral phases like pyrrhotite and pyrite which is consistent with the upper greenschist to lower amphibolite metamorphic grade observed at Pasto and Ylijoki. Regionally, the metamorphic grade is higher, suggesting that mineralization at Pasto and Ylijoki occurred during later and cooler stages of the orogeny.
The license includes two gold occurrences, Pasto and Ylijoki, which are hosted in quartz veins sub-parallel to regional shear corridor. Pasto is hosted in intermediate volcanic rocks and contains two types of mineralization – Au-bearing quartz veins and arsenopyrite in brittle failure zones and Au hosted in arsenopyrite in ductile shear zones. GTK completed a sampling campaign at Pasto in 2008 that yielded up to 1750 ppb Au in boulders (n=14, avg=392 ppb) and 749 ppb Au in outcrop (n=23, avg=133 ppb)2. Through 2013, GTK completed an extensive exploration program, including boulder and bedrock mapping, ground geophysical surveys, geochemical sampling of till and outcrops, base-of-till drilling, and diamond drilling (51 holes, 3706 m).
Mineralization at Ylijoki includes outcropping gold-bearing quartz veins, which are striking NNE-SSW. In 1988, GTK sampled quartz veins up to 60 cm thick in outcrop at Ylijoki. Subsequently GTK ran a Slingram ground survey, but this method had a limited depth of signal penetration. In 1989, GTK drilled 11 shallow diamond drillholes4 (totaling 418 m) where there were coincident magnetic and IP anomalies, which had mineralization styles distinct from Pasto.
