Sepponen

EMX interprets the Sepponen Project represents a possible rifted segment and continuation of the gold-rich Kuhmo Province geology. Orogenic gold deposits in the Kuhmo Province formed during the Loppian Orogeny (2.8-2.6 Ga) and are associated with a regional N-S suture zone. EMX recognized that the aerogmagnetic signature of structures in the Sepponen license is consistent with the regional suture zone and the project geology includes the same productive greenstone units as elsewhere in the Kuhmo Province.

There had been limited modern exploration in this area and previous workers were primarily looking for diamonds. Newly-released Finnish Geological Survey (GTK) results highlighted the gold potential in the district, leading EMX to stake the Sepponen Project. The GTK results identify a new 8 km-long trend of boulders and outcrops with very high Au and As values. Eight out of ten rock chip samples returned a gold concentration higher than 1 ppm Au (n=10, max=9.6 ppm Au, min=0.02 ppm Au, avg=2.7 ppm Au).1

The project displays strongly calc-silicate altered banded amphibolite and gold in quartz veins with associated potassic feldspar, calcite, hornblende, and arsenopyrite.2
